VIETNAM WAS THE GREAT ADVENTURE OF MY GENERATION

Vuy Tran Story

The last time I went to Vietnam was in 2001. I needed a haircut before the trip. My wife was using a Vietnamese hairdresser named Vuy Tran. My wife told me that she was from Vietnam. I made an appointment to meet Vuy. I told her that I was going back to Vietnam next week. I told her that I was an Army pilot during the Vietnam war. Immediately she exclaimed---"YOU MY FATHER”? Wow, I about fell off the chair. She told me that her mother was from Dong Ba Thin, Vietnam in 1968. Wow, that was a year after I left. She then left the room, and I’m sure it was to call her mother. I think she was telling her mother what I looked like?

Vuy came back and told me that her father was an Army pilot. He had reddish hair and had freckles on his arms. Col. Mack Gibson talked at length about who that person could be?

Vuy did look Amer-Asian. She had round eyes and freckles. She told me her mother had a picture of her father but had to destroy the picture. The mother did not want to see that she had a child that was Amer-Asian. After the war, her mother was put in an indoctrination camp for many years. The mother said that she dressed Vuy in long sleeves so that the freckles were not visible. I was told that she almost died in the camp. I do not know who took care of Vuy while she was in the camp?

The end of the story is that Vuy went back to Vietnam and married a Vietnamese man. I think that they both live in Seattle today?
