SUNKEN JAP SHIP STORY AND ANTI-AIRCRAFT POSITION
After arriving in Phan Thiet I was given a mission that stated that there was an emplacement of a aircraft gun. WOW did they really want me to look for an anti-aircraft gun? The area was between Phan Thiet and ???. There was a mountain in the area that was made up of very large rock boulders. The mountain was several hundred feet high. The search area was determined to be facing the South China Sea and directly on the coastline. Let it be known that I did take a look, but did fly too close. I was almost a short timer. A short timer is a person with 30 days or less to do in Vietnam. I did find in the ocean a sunken ship that had a hole in the side which resulted in the ship looking like “V”, The water was very shallow in and around the sunken ship. I found out at a later date that the ship was a Japanese WW2 ship.
