BELOW ARE SOME TRUE BUT UNTOLD STORIES
VIETNAM WAS THE GREAT ADVENTURE OF MY GENERATION

ROK artillery hits Huey

The Republic of Korea (ROK) base in 1967 was the headquarters for the Koreans. All of us from Dong Ba Thin would take mini R & R’s at NaTrang. Sometimes we would go to NaTrang while our airplane was having the 100 hour inspection. The preferred route to NaTrang was to fly over the ocean and around the point of land located before NaTrang and then on to the NaTrang airfield. Otherwise the route to NaTrang would be by driving. At one of my 100 hour inspections we did drive in a 3/4 ton truck. The route drove thru lan old Michelin Plantation. I do remember getting shot at when passing thru the plantation! PIC HERE.

The ROK troops had been known to adjust their artillery into the South China Sea, North of Dong Ba Thin, which was the route by airplane to NaTrang. One day in 1967 the ROK’s were adjusting their artillery into the flight path of the route path to NaTrang, when a helicopter from the ??? Helicopter Company was en route to NaTrang. The helicopter was hit directly by an artillery shell. All were KIA. The helicopter contained most of the staff from the helicopter company.
